Hi my name is Carmen Violich-Goodin (@carmenviolich) I am a photographer from Berkleley, California and I’m taking over @exxplorevision this week.
The takeover series includes pictures I’ve made that feature strong compositional elements: color play, shadows, contrasts, abstract form and geometry. All pictures are made spontaneously and candidly and some, with strangers, to add meaning and scale, suggest the beginning of a narrative. I’m interested in the tension between what is real and what is on the threshold of abstraction, and this has provoked a question: can an abstract photograph, if not a surreal one be as evocative and compelling as a purely representational photograph? And if so, how is it that we can respond to abstraction with the same range of emotion that we do when seeing a picture that tells a more explicit story? This quandary is always present within me.
Thanks for stopping by!
